the times gets it right

A remarkably non-cringe-inducing article in tomorrow’s New York Times on the rising New York City coffee scene is well worth reading. A number of friends in the trenches like Sam Crane, Ken Nye, Bob Peyton, Dan Griffin, and Chris Owen get name checked and there is even a video segment where Bob and Chris throw down some technique.

Its all too rare to find media coverage of the new culinary coffee culture that isn’t merely business section fluff. Props to Peter Meehan and the folks at the Times who put this piece together.

For those who want to get plugged into the NYC coffee scene I’d recommend checking out Mike and Chris (from Gimme Brooklyn)’s blog Shot Zombies, Cafe Grumpy’s blog, and my main man Daniel’s indispensable and eloquent coffee blog.

Thanks Tony. We were pleasantly non-cringey as well. Turns out Peter Meehan really care…

overall an excellent article, though it should be pointed out that 9th Street espresso and Cafe Grumpy both get their coffee from Counter Culture Coffee, not Common Grounds.

Tony I miss you. The article was awesome. Almost everything is going well out here in NY coffee. The one missing element: we have no bearded caffeo-mycologists. I’m thinking of buying a pair of rolly-shoes just to fill the void in everyone’s life.

Be well; good luck in Los Diablos.

    Hey Tony–

Thanks for the link to the video. Having read the article in the print version, I missed it. Yes, a good article that got just about everything right. Nice to see that the Big Apple is finally getting some decent coffee.

Hey Tonx—Could you drop me a line? I’m a reporter in Portland working on some coffee coverage that I would love to be non-cringe-inducing. If ya can, that’d be great.

    Hey Tonx,
It’s Jessica from Victrola and now in NY. Back in the coffee seen with Ken Nye, very excited. Thanks for everything that you have taught me thus far I look foward to cupping with you again someday.
