how’re things in Greece?
Earlier this year my coffee companion Kyle and I jumped hemispheres for a week to lend a hand to a group of ambitious Greeks gearing up to open a serious cafe in the heart of Athens - Evergreen.

It was an intense experience. A real privilege to do work with people of such genuine passion. We still keep in touch with Antonis, Menelaos and the crew. They opened their doors in March and have been “in the tempest” ever since, battling the challenges of staffing, troublehooting, and delivering real coffee to a land still dominated by instant coffee and espresso-from-a-can. Word is they’ve got the best croissant in town in addition to the best espresso. Our main man Alexis just worked 30 hours straight last weekend, breaking all of his existing records.

Antonis at his roaster. Kyle and Alexis attempt an Evergreen gang sign.
We hope to have the opportunity to spend more time with these guys in the near future. Coffeegeeks visiting Athens should drop into this oasis and say hi. Evergreen is at 4 Korai Street, Athens, 105 64, Greece.
