the campfire headphase

The new Boards of Canada album The Campfire Headphase is coming out October 17th. The internet has already provided me with a copy, which I have listened to only a handful of times as I wish to save the potency of this record for special occasions. There is a quality in their music which I find myself chasing down but never quite finding in other ambient-ish psychedelic electronica. Warp records has a preview track available on Bleep and a nifty web based player that allows me to dose you with it below.

am i bad for finding this album to be relatively boring and pedestrian?

wait, am i bad, regardless? existential crisis much??

    just kidding. it’s nice enough.

I’m really liking this one. I’ve only listened to it a couple of times too, mind you I’ve had a slew of new music in the past week, but it’s looking to be like quite the album. I’d put it as better than Geogaddi. Kind of like if Ulrich Schnauss and M83 got in a barfight with BoC, but BoC won.

i’m liking it so far. no dissapointments. its nice that i can actually play this one in the shop, it doesn’t get too far out.

Geogaddi is one og my top 3 albums of all-time….. This one is probably in my top 5… Got only one swing at it… guitars? BoC? Strange….

  5. tiredbrandon Says:

i like it alot but the guitars threw me off a little as well. i think it will grow on me.
p.s. randomly came across this and realized i know you from flickr

This is far better than Geogaddi, Im going to be controversial here: I like it more than MHTRTC.

It’s really sinking in…. I’d also say (as granty pus it) that it’s the best BoC album.
Geogaddi is really close, but maybe it’s the novelty factor that’s making me say this…

i was a bit disappointed. i think this album was lacking the quality amount of beats they are so loved for providing, and filling the gap with more spacey/ambient–higher/ligher acidic sounds. although its still good, i think its moving away from their trademark beat-orientated sound. the direction they are moving in gets closer to the majority sound of electro-ambient. if you like this album, check out the group Casino Versus Japan.

I thought that this was a great album on its own for sure. Not as good as Music Has the Right to Children, but why compare?

lucky me… i’m going backwards in time… loved campfire then learned about ‘music has the right to children’. both great albums.

    Feedback about the forum!
I’d like to give some feedback about the Forum, I am surprised how few people use it, here are some of the issues I have observed and heard from members:

    1. From the homepage there is no apparent direct link to member forum. I find it each time by going to the blog and going to the disclaimer where it gives you the link to Member forum. Could you maybe make it more visible, and more people will use it.

    2. Quite a few people have mentioned that they submitted non-offensive posts and that their posts got pulled (happened to me the other day) this will surely discourage people.

    3. Some people have mentioned that they submitted a post and no reply from w/s staff was ever received..that will surely discourage people.

thanks for listening and have a great day! Marita
