more madness

The SCAA showfloor in Charlottee is a lot like Burning Man.

Everywhere are people who have invested a crapload of energy and money into a small temporary piece of real estate that screams “look at me”. Lots of people with cameras, very little visible cash transactions. You wander aimlessly with old and new friends and crazy agendas and if you’re not carrying enough water you quickly feel like crap.

In fact the effect of the garish purple carpets and bright lights is a lot like being on drugs.

I’ve posted more photos to flickr.

Its been a really amazing experience so far and so many very interesting doors have been opened to us. There is a lot of cool shit inside this eccentric industry that defies my natural cynicism. A number of adventures are being lined up (and this blog might soon get more interesting).

The finals of the USBC are about to kick off and I’ll be skipping breakfast to try and catch the action.

If you could update your blog DURING the competition, it would be great (as opposed to just posting the results). Go Ryan Dennhardt!

I loved your analogy Tony. I wish I was there to experience the craziness with you guys. I hope you guys can make it to Bern or Athens or both. Some of your future adventures will be unfolding there. We, the coffee people of Evergreen are there in spirit and will be in Bern and Athens in person.

Thanks for posting from SCAA - can’t believe there’s not more available. If you can find some free wifi down there, an upload of the USBC finalists today would be awesome. We had to fly back Sunday evening. We have a ton of shots we’re posting, but we couldn’t stay for the finalists to be announced. So photos would be great.

Also - three Clovers on the floor (Clover, Intelligentsia, Counter Culture). It was our first experience taste testing one - not quite sold on it yet for $8K. We tested Kenya AAs from Intelli and CC and found a white pepper spiciness we hadn’t experienced with drip or press.

Hope you win the G3 (if we don’t).

You mean women and children were running around naked, people were doing ad-hoc performance art and at the end, they burned everything down???

    awesome :)
