origin

U.K. barista champion and fellow coffee blogger James Hoffmann just returned from a whirlwind tour of El Salvador and posted this great report and some fantastic photographs. Reading his tale has me feeling excited about my own first trip to origin which kicks off this weekend.

Doug Zell and Geoff Watts of Chicago-based Intelligentsia are two of the most esteemed guys working in coffee today and I’ve been granted the great privilege of accompanying them on a trip to Mexico next week. On Sunday morning we’ll be flying from Chicago through Mexico City and on to Oaxaca to begin a coffee adventure that is sure to expand my knowledge and max out my camera’s memory card.

After Saturday night I’ll be mostly off the grid for about a week (barring any quick posting from a random internet cafe) but will return with many lengthy tales.

Bring an extra memory card. Bring two!
I went through nearly a gig in the end. Lots more to upload at some point.

Have a great time - origin will leave you evangelical!

Steve - just there briefly Saturday night and heading out early Sunday. I might have a little more time there on the return end of the trip.
